Jack Hartnell RIP

Jack joined the club in 1963, sailing an Alabacore, and he is remembered with fondness by many early members. His funeral is at Coundon Crematorium at 12.30 on Wednesday June 5. His great friend Robin Barratt, has written a tribute to Jack, they are pictured together and with Ann and Val:
"Ann and I had been visiting Jack regularly over the last few months and until a few weeks ago he was coping well. However, recently his health deteriorated rapidly and was in hospital when he died peacefully in his sleep on May 22. Jack and his wife Val were very early members of UYC and he was delighted to attend as a guest at the 60th Anniversary Celebrations of the club last year.(Second left in the picture)
Jack and Val were close friends with Ann and I for more than 40 years and we raced his and my Hunter at the club and cruised Scotland's West coast in a Contessa. For many years we skied in the Alps and the Cairngorms. It was tragic when Val died so early. Val was a wonderful wife and companion but Jack was resolute and although heartbroken, rebuilt his life. We bought and raced an Etap 21, calling the boat Valann!
Jack was a primary school headmaster and a craftsman who built superb furniture. He was a man of positive opinion and it was to his credit that he and I were strong friends over the years. Ann and I will miss him."
