The POETS 2024 lunch and prize giving was held at the Penrith Golf Club on Friday 11th October. The overall points winners were the 2024 Masters Week champions Colin Brown and David Kitchen, a superb performance as their handicap had been steadily increasing throughout the season. Keith Hyde sailing with Derek Pierce was second and third were Mike Childs and Glyn Blakey sailing together in their first POETS year. In the Island series Colin Brown and David Kitchen took first place, Steve Libby, Sue Harding and Andrew Darwent were second and Andrew and Barbara Cutting came third.

Kate Brown assisted by John Wales presented the prizes, a cup and a lovely photograph of Norfolk Island for the winners to keep for the year and engraved wine glasses for first second and third places.

Organiser Colin Brown reviewed the year. He said that the two POETS series were again the most supported cruiser events at the Club with over twenty boats taking part. In the more challenging Island race series eleven boats completed three or more races, he also thanked the many volunteers who assisted in the running of the events, the evening meals and the winter walks which take the place of the sailing and in particular John and Moira Wales for their efforts.

To end the event poems were read, Raymond Harle presented the cockup prize to Chris Taylor for accidentally dropping Liz Amos into the water and John Easterby proposed a toast to POETS past and present.
