Notes for Prospective Members

Ullswater Yacht Club is a family-friendly, welcoming sailing club that caters for sailors with a wide range of abilities and interests and their families. To ensure that the club runs smoothly and safely, we have a few guidelines to help everyone have fun and enjoy their time at UYC.
Sailing dinghies
If you have a dinghy, you will be allocated a berth in the dinghy park, the list and map is on the wall near the back entrance to the club. Please make sure that your dinghy is tied down securely, it can get very windy around Ullswater! Standard fees cover your berth over the season, winter berths can be booked with the club secretary if you need to leave it over winter.
Cruisers
We have a variety of club moorings for boats up to 7.92m (26ft). There may be availability depending upon the size of your boat or you may need to join the waiting list. If we cannot accommodate you immediately then we can help you get a mooring nearby with Dalemain Estates.
Insurance
As you would expect, all boats must be covered by adequate third party insurance.
Water safety cover
Safety Boats are on the water during all Club Racing, Training or Organised Events and at other times during the main sailing season - please check.
Club duties
UYC is run mainly by its members. Because of this we need everyone to take part in club duties. There are two main types, Race Office and Water Safety, both have roles that can be done by novices and training will be provided for anyone who wishes to become more experienced. Duties are a great way to meet other members of the club as you will be paired with more experienced people. It is organised online, through the members portal. For those non-sailing members who prefer to be involved other than in the sailing there are always opportunities for marshalling, registration at open events and cake-baking for those inclined. All help is very gratefully received and it is a great way of meeting new friends.
Camping/Campervans
One of the great advantages to membership of UYC, other than the great sailing, of course, is the free camping. We have a dedicated camping field available throughout the season. Campervans are also free for members on specified weekends, (but are limited in numbers and are listed in the calendar). Unfortunately, we do not have permission to have caravans on site but there are caravan parks very close to our site.
Catering
We offer excellent catering facilities including a members' kitchen and a fantastic galley. We also have a super social scene with regular events held throughout the season. For those wonderful Ullswater evenings we also have a super BBQ on the waters' edge for use by members.
Young people
We take the safety of children on site very seriously. For this reason, all children under the age of 16 years must be under the care of a responsible adult and should wear a suitable life jacket/buoyancy aid when on or near the water, this includes both the jetties.
Dogs
Dogs are very welcome, in fact we have quite a few canine members, but they must always be kept on a lead. They are not allowed on the front lawn or in the clubhouse and, obviously, we expect every owner to be responsible and clean up after their dog.
