Neil Thompson RIP

So sorry to let everyone know of the death of long-standing club member Neil Thompson earlier today, Friday, September 2, after a short illness.
Neil was a stalwart of the cruiser fleet for more than 20 years and worked for the club as a volunteer in many roles. He was a UYC Director as Membership Secretary for three years and was an experienced Race Officer, running several major national events at the club, supported by his wife Pauline who sadly died in 2019.
Above all, he loved sailing. This summer he took his Shrimper to a rally at Largs, winning one of the meeting's major trophies, the Lady Rochester Seamanship Trophy, and he was the 'dressed overall' expert, enjoying decorating his previous boat, a Cornish Crabber, for special events. A true gentleman, he was always approachable and ready to help and his quiet expertise will be missed.
Commodore Kathryn Hall: The Board and I were very sad to hear about the death of Neil Thompson. Neil was a very valued member at Ullswater Yacht Club. He and Pauline supported the club in many ways over many years, including when Neil was Membership Secretary. He was always friendly and very generous with his time and support. Neil will be a significant miss at UYC and our thoughts and prayers go to his sister, family and friends.
Neil's funeral will be held at 12.30pm on Friday, September 16, at St Martin and St Hilary Church, Forest Lane, Kirklevington TS15 9LQ followed by a short committal at St Hilda's Chapel, Teesside Crematorium, Acklam Road, Middlesbrough TS5 7HD, at 1.45pm. There will be a get together afterwards at The Crown, Kirklevington TS15 9LT to raise a glass to Neil. All welcome.
