Young sailors have been flying the flag for Ullswater Yacht Club over Easter.
Members of the club's thriving Junior Section who sail singlehanded RS Tera dinghies were part of the successful RS Tera Team North at a Battle of the Regions event at Draycote Water Sailing Club, near Rugby in Warwickshire, over the Easter weekend.
A total of 50 junior sailors from all over the country took part in the event, representing their home regions and the members of Team UYC who raced were delighted to be part of the winning North Region. They were putting into practise a busy winter of special training.
The keen young UYC racers were on the road again the following weekend, April 15 & 16, to Northampton Sailing Club for the RS Tera Start of the Season Championships, racing against 38 competitors from across the UK. They were pleased with their results - Olivia Dembinska, 13, from Carlisle, 7th in the Pro Class; Laia Priestley, 11, from near Penrith, 8th in the Sports Class; her sister Aggie, 9, 11th in the Sports Class. Grace Fleming, 10, from Penrith was racing in her second national event in her Tera Sport and her brother Harry, 8, also took part in the Regatta Class for newcomers to racing.
