Our friendly instructors will be with you every step of the way, offering clear instruction, guidance and encouragement.
The course will cover:
Rigging the boat with assistance
Launching the dinghy from the shore with instruction
Steering the boat while sailing and being towed
Turning the boat
How the basic sail controls work and how to stop
How to paddle or row the boat
What to wear
What the parts of the boat are called
Where the wind is coming from
On completion of the Stage 1 course, you will be able to steer a boat and have an understanding of the basic principles of sailing.
Next Steps
When you feel ready to learn some more then you can book onto our Stage 2 course. This course builds on the Stage 1 content and will teach you more about controlling your boat so that you can sail more independently. Your instructor can give you more information about this course. The details are also in the RYA course brochure https://www.rya.org.uk/SiteCollectionDocuments/training/Pathway%20leaflets/Dinghy%20Youth.pdf
