Update 2.4.20 Birkett cancelled

Update from the Vice-Commodore 2 April 2020
With the Club site closed, the gate is locked with a different code number, to discourage all but essential travel. Regular security checks are carried out on site and safety boats have been taken away to reduce the risk of their loss.
The Board is meeting by remote conferencing every week to consider and arrange implementation all actions necessary for the best interest of our Club and all of its Members. It is reassuring to know that the vast majority of the membership is extremely supportive of our Club and its continued wellbeing.
The Finance Committee also meets weekly in the same way to review the current position and be ready to recommend any action requiring Board approval to minimize financial risk to Ullswater YC. We are very fortunate in having Keith Lockey utilize his valuable expertise in analyzing data, producing different scenarios with their probable outcomes to enable effective decision making for the benefit of the Club and Members.
After much deliberation the Sailing Committee has determined that the Lord Birkett Memorial Trophy Race should not take place in 2020. This decision is supported by the Board.
The normal early July date was out of the question due to the preparation lead time. A September date was considered but the potential for major open events elsewhere at the same time, unavailability of contract catering and marquee, together with limiting members sailing opportunity in what would be a short season was thought to devalue the Birkett. The holding of other open events from August onwards will be reviewed nearer the time.
And finally, we hope that you and your family take care, stay safe and that we can resume the recreation and comradeship at the Club we love before too long.
David Lyons, Vice-Commodore
