POETS FINAL RESULTS AND PRIZEGIVING 2025

The Ullswater Yacht Club POETS 2025 lunch and prize giving was held at the Penrith Golf Club on Friday 10th October. The overall points winners were Mike Childs and Glyn Blakely, second were Phil Laycock, Rob Copley, Ian Graham and Dave Lyons; Keith Hyde sailing with Derek Pierce was third. In the Island series Chris Taylor and Liz Amos were first, second was Keith Hyde and Derek Pierce, Sam Harding came third.

Kate Brown assisted by John Wales presented the prizes, a cup and a lovely photograph of Norfolk Island for the winners to keep for the year and engraved wine glasses for first second and third places.

Organiser Colin Brown reviewed the year. He said that the two POETS series were again the most supported cruiser events at the Club with over twenty boats taking part. In the more challenging Island race series fourteen boats completed three or more races, he also thanked the many volunteers who assisted in the running of the events, the evening meals and the winter walks which take the place of the sailing and in particular John and Moira Wales for their efforts.

To end the event poems were read, Chris Taylor presented the cockup prize to Phil Laycock for accidentally for going aground on several occasions and John Easterby proposed a toast to POETS past and present.
