Autumn Training - 3 & 20 September 2025

Our new to 2025 stage 4/ advanced session is a fantastic way for our experienced youth sailors to build further skills in racing, performance sailing and advanced sailing.

This is our starting point for young people who want to learn to sail. The course is taught by our RYA qualified instructors and is specially tailored to younger sailors. We will teach you the basics of how a boat sails and you will gain experience of steering and handling the boat in a safe environment. During this course we aim to maximise the time having fun on the water and building confidence. Our friendly instructors will be with you every step of the way, offering clear instruction, guidance and encouragement.

Following on from RYA Stage 1, this course is designed to give you further confidence and build on your Stage 1 skills. You will learn more about controlling the direction and speed of your boat and develop your competence in light and moderate wind conditions. Tuition takes place in single-handed boats under the supervision of an RYA, fully qualified instructor. Our friendly instructors will be with you every step of the way, offering clear guidance and encouragement in a safe and fun environment.

At UYC our Sailing School’s RYA Stage 3 course is designed to allow you to sail a small single-handed dinghy independently in any direction. Our RYA qualified instructors will teach you how to rig a dinghy correctly and how to launch and recover a boat. You will spend plenty of time on the water building on your previous knowledge and skills and learning how to sail in a greater variety of situations. We will introduce you to racing and teach you some of the techniques for making your boat sail faster. You will also learn more about using ropes and knots effectively
