Club racing made a welcome return over the Easter weekend (5th6th April) as sailors took to the water for the much-anticipated Easter Trophy, following the previous weekend's cancellation due to strong winds.

Despite early concerns as Storm Dave loomed over the weekend, conditions proved far more favourable than expected, delivering an excellent two days of competitive racing and a strong turnout across the fleet.

Sunday Youth Sailors Brave the Conditions

Sunday's racing saw the club's intrepid Tera sailors take centre stage. With lingering conditions from Storm Dave keeping the adult fleet ashore, it was the junior sailors who embraced the challenge and ventured out.

In Race 1 of the Easter Trophy, Jessica Warner secured victory with a determined and confident performance in testing conditions, setting the tone for the weekend.

Monday Full Fleet Returns

By Monday, conditions had improved significantly, allowing a full fleet of 26 boats to take to the wateran impressive turnout featuring a wide range of classes, from Teras through to Tempests.

Competition was strong throughout the fleet, with the Flying Fifteen pairing of Jon Abbott and Chris Mulholland taking overall first place. Andy McAlea secured second in his ILCA 6, while Tony Lewis and Andy Cutting claimed third in their VX One.

The junior fleet continued to shine, with Aggie Priestley finishing sixth overall in her Tera to take the title of first junior.

Jessica Warner was also recognised ashore, receiving her Junior Dinghy Ladies Day Prize for 2025well deserved after an outstanding weekend.

A Team Effort

The success of the event was made possible thanks to the efforts of many volunteers. Race Officer Phil Noaks delivered an excellent day's racing, supported by Derek Pierce, while Pamela Brooks ensured smooth and timely results.

Safety cover was expertly handled by Martin and Denise Sykes, alongside Chris and Karen Smith, whose time on the rescue boats was greatly appreciated.

A Strong Start to the Season

All in all, the Easter Trophy marked a fantastic return to club racing, with competitive sailing, strong participation, and a great atmosphere both on and off the water.

A big thank you goes to everyone who took part and contributed to making the weekend such a success.
