Countdown to re-opening UYC

Published 19:51 on 20 May 2020

The Directors outline below the actions we have taken and would like to highlight that although the club house will be closed, we are hiring separate toilets which will be available for members with sanitiser/cleaning products and queue system.

May we thank members for their messages of support. Many of you have asked about mid-week sailing in order to spread the number of members on site. We can confirm that we are keen to support this and will be releasing more information asap. We welcome views of members and can be contacted on uyccommodore@gmail.com

  • Sub-committee produced an Action Plan for the intended opening of the site
  • Unfurloughed Mark and Edmund from June 1st. Defined safe working environment requirements
  • Arranged for contractors to complete wall removal and ramp repair
  • Decided when it is appropriate for members to return to the club and which areas to be made available taking into account Government and Local Authority restrictions. Open June 13th
  • Reviewed Monday club arrangements and will place on hold for the time being
  • Ordered portable toilets and anti-bacteria arrangements - available for reopening
  • Immediate Legionella inspection avoided by running water each week during shut down (inspection when we open club house).

  • Contacted Penrith Canoe Polo Club who confirmed they do not wish to use our facilities at present
  • Members of Sailing Committee reviewed restrictions and opportunities to sail and/or race
  • Re-evaluated and produced new Site and Water based Risk Assessments taking into account Corona Virus limitations and restrictions. To be published on members section of website when finalised
  • Communicated with members on 2 occasions since revised government restriction advice made known
  • Agreed we will take out an advert in local paper to advise community of our plans
  • Contacted our neighbours to gain their trust and support for re-opening within guidelines. Outward Bound have offered to provide volunteers to assist us in re opening
