Ullswater Yacht Club hosted the the RS21 and the SB20 Inland Championships over the weekend of March 26 & 27. For the newer RS21 class it was the very first Inlands. Six RS21 teams and three SB20 teams, including several local club sailors took part in the event. Saturday brought blue skies and bright sunshine but no wind and the start time was delayed until a light breeze kicked in and racing got under way at around 3pm. Race officer David Clarke reduced the length of the races and managed to get seven completed in the shifting winds.
Overnight leader in the RS21 was Russell Page and crew from Budworth Sailing Club with Tom Walker and his team just one point behind. In the SB20s, UYC's Tom Neilson and his local crew had a string of firsts to put them in top spot overnight.
On Sunday, with no wind again, the start time was delayed and once the wind arrived there was time for just one more quick race before it died. Russell Page and his team made it first over the finish line again to take the inaugural RS21 Inland Championships. Tom Neilson and his team of locals took the top prize in the SB20 class.
