The regular Youth & Junior Race Training sessions are a chance for the club's youngsters, aged 10 to 16 to develop their skills. Despite a breezy forecast, conditions were ideal on Saturday morning, April 27, for the first session of the 2019 season with nine budding young sailors on the water.

One of the instructors, Chris Mulholland explained: "Training takes place through the summer linked to a series of races with trophies to be won. This is a great progression for the kids having worked through UYC's Ullswater Sailing School. Now they have the opportunity to progress with one eye on the Regional Junior Championships later in the year. Cake and chocolates help to keep spirits up and finish the day on a high."

The sessions are run by a volunteer coaching team who are hoping for a large club entry into the British Youth Sailing (BYS) Regional Junior Championships being held at Derwent Reservoir Sailing Club in September. The club hosted the inaugural BYS event in 2018 and it was a great success with more than 160 boats from all over the region including 29 young sailors from UYC taking part.
