Ten competitors were at Ullwater Yacht Club on May 6 for the second race in the Friday afternoon POETS series.
The course was 2 laps of Club-Beauthorn-Sharrow-Harbour-Floshgate-Waterside-Club, quite a lot to remember.
The weather forecast was for rain with winds of between 10 and 18moh. The winds however soon dropped and the rain consisted of a persistent drizzle. Keith Hyde sailing his Parker 21 for the first time this year quickly ruled himself out of the running by going aground twice before the start and having to be pulled off by the club's safety boat.
Sue Harding and Steve Libby (Sonata) got away to a good start closely followed by David Hansford and Derek Pierce (Pegasus) and they remained fairly close for the whole race. By the halfway stage the wind speed dropped and the boats towards the back of the fleet fell even further behind to finish around thirty minutes behind the leaders.
Although the Sonata finished in just over one hour 23 minutes, 3 minutes ahead of the Pegasus, after last week's win her handicap was such that on corrected time the Pegasus was the race winner.
Results: 1st David Hansford, 2nd Sue Harding, 3rd Colin Brown (Beneteau 21)
- David Hansford
