The POETS Series at Ullswater Yacht Club on Friday 6 August was a normal round the buoys race rather than the published Island race again due to lack of a decent wind to get competitors back in a reasonable time. The forecast had been thunder - a Met Office warning - rain, and no wind. There was thankfully no thunder and with the showers came a reasonable breeze for an enjoyable afternoon's sailing.
Six boats started; the course was straightforward: Club-Brunskill-Waterside-Floshgate-Lodge-Club 2 laps. All the larger boats got away together, John Easterby and Richard Sealby lead the fleet to Waterside where David Hansford with Derek Pierce took over and just stayed ahead to the end of the first lap. Colin Brown with his grandson and Neil Thompson as crew then overtook with Keith Hyde and Steve Jury close behind. Raymond Harle and John Wales followed on with newcomers Richard and Angela Bailey in their Hunter 23. The final leg to the club involved a close tacking match between David, Keith and Colin who eventually took line honours.
After handicap calculations the results were 1st John Easterby 2nd David Hansford 3rd Keith Hyde.
