Captain Tom Donations
Go sailing over the weekend of May 1 & 2 and join in our Captain Tom 100 Marks Challenge.
Over the weekend when Captain Tom Moore would have been 101 (April 30), clubs and organisations are being encouraged to do a '100 Challenge' for charity in tribute to his inspirational fundraising and to build on his legacy. At UYC we are planning a 100 Marks Challenge on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd May.
The 100 Marks Challenge
Racing will be as scheduled over the weekend. The Race Officer and Assistant will set courses on Saturday and Sunday that ensure that the boats racing pass 100 marks collectively over the day. For example, if the course has six marks and there are two laps each boat has twelve marks to the total. So, with a good turnout, it should be easy to achieve 100 marks on both days.
The Charity will be the Calvert Trust, Lake District
We are keen to look at how we can improve Disabled Sailor facilities at UYC and are taking steps to develop a relationship with the Calvert Trust. For over 40 years they have provided outdoor activities including Sailing. They have a fleet of dinghies, dayboats and support boats and a team of instructors that are skilled in helping Disabled Sailors get a taste for Sailing and then progressing as crew and helms. This, and their facilities, will provide practical input to UYC on options.
