Our fleet and boat hire costs 2023

Boat Hire

Ullswater Sailing School has fleet of boats available to hire. More info on each class can be found below. We have three Toppers, six Picos, two Fevas, two Bahias, and two Laser Stratos. Whilst we do not ask hirers to have any formal qualification to hire one of our boats, previous experience is essential. When making a decision as to whether to hire we will consider the following:
Amount of experience
How recently you have been sailing.
Current and forecast wind speed and direction.
Any sailing qualifications

We will monitor your initial performance and boat handling and occasionally this will warrant a tow back to base and the suggestion of some tuition rather than continuing with the hire.We only hire out boats when there is safety cover available on the lake (usually weekends or school holidays) and when the wind is below Force 4. We ask that you stay within view of the sailing club.

We also have six Stand Up Paddleboards which are available for hire in two hour sessions.

Topper

The Topper is an 11 foot sailing dinghy designed by Ian Proctor. The Topper is a one-design boat sailed mostly around Ireland and the United Kingdom. It was recognised as an International class by the International Sailing Federation. The boat is constructed from polypropylene, and is popular as a racing boat or for sail training. Ullswater Sailing School has 3 Toppers available

Laser Pico

The Laser Pico dinghy is a small sailboat designed by Jo Richards in the mid-1990s and used primarily for training and day sailing. It can be crewed by one or two children or an adult. Current models come equipped with both a mainsail and a jib, but the jib is so small that it is faster sailed single handed using only the mainsail. Ullswater Sailing School has 6 Picos available

RS Feva

The RS Feva is a two-person sailing dinghy designed by Paul Handley in 2002. It is manufactured and distributed by RS Sailing. The RS Feva is an International Sailing Federation international class, a Royal Yachting Association supported junior class. Ullswater Sailing School has 2 RS Fevas available.

Laser Bahia

The Laser Bahia was designed with stability, safety and performance in mind. It was created for leisure and ease of use, but not at the expense of performance. Stability and sturdy hull design make it easy to motor or row. The Laser Bahia comes with a single line reefable mainsail for added sailing comfort in a breeze. Ullswater Sailing School has 2 Laser Bahias available.

Laser Stratos

The Laser Stratos is an all-round cruising and racing boat built by Laser Performance, the same company as the famous Laser standard dinghy. It is built from fibreglass and foam sandwich. The Laser Stratos comes in two forms, one with a keel (similar to most yachts) and one with a centreboard (like nearly all dinghies). The centreboard version is red and the keel version is blue. The Stratos is quite spacious and most of the rigging is kept out of the way. The boat can optionally be fitted with trapeze lines and an engine bracket for carrying an outboard engine. Ullswater Sailing School has 2 Laser Stratos available.

Laser Funboat

Easy to rig, easy to sail the Laser Funboat is the perfect entry level sailing boat. With a combination of roominess, stability, manoeuvrability and simplicity the Funboat has everything for someone who just wants to have fun on the water.
