Family Learn to Sail Week, August 6 -10

Family Learn to Sail Week, August 6 -10

“There was a mixture of leisure sailing, semi-serious racing, family activities, water-based youth clubs and on-shore family fun, together with a range of Ullswater Sailing School lessons which were available at a discounted price,” he explained. “We wanted to organise a special week’s holiday for club members and also show visitors everything that the club has to offer, both on and off the water.”

More than 50 newcomers to sailing, many of them youngsters, took advantage of five days of Royal Yachting Association courses, Level One and Level Two. There was also a Kids’ Club for budding young sailors every morning.

The five days were packed with activities including arts and crafts, a massive waterslide, raft building,  barbecues, water fights, paddle boarding and leisure sailing as well as racing. One of the highlights was an afternoon cruiser and dinghy expedition down the lake. More than 90 people jumped on board members’ cruisers and were joined by sailors in their dinghies to experience what it is like on Cumbria’s most beautiful lake. “We are very grateful to all the cruiser owners who joined in and gave our visitors an experience to remember,” said Andrew Bailey.

UYC’s Sailing Development Officer Edmund Clarke was on hand all week looking after the Sailing School courses and Kids’ Club. Ullswater Sailing School offers a range of RYA course and taster sessions, for details contact Edmund on  tel 07826 382612, email or visit
